Preceptorship Training
With Lyme-Literate Physicians
Not Just For Students, this Training is also for
Practicing Physicians
The Preceptorship program was started by the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Socitey (ILADS) to give physicians a hands-on training in the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease from Lyme-literate doctors. The program is underwritten by a grant from Turn the Corner Foundation.
Even if you do not intend to begin the extensive road to becoming a comprehensive practitioner of tick borne illnesses; (equivalent of a Syphilologist back in the days of Syphilis) those of us who are (LLMD’s, LLND’s and LLDO’s) perhaps better coined borreliologists, are hoping and welcoming those of you who want to become at least lyme friendly and willing to learn more about these complex diseases. As you refer patients to us, this will allow you more understanding of when to include it in your differential dx as well as when to refer. For those of you who are in various areas of specialized medicine: ND’s, MD’s and DO’s; whom we refer for specialized work up, it would be VERY helpful to have some of you on board who are lyme friendly and knowledgeable as well. Please consider doing a preceptorship.
Logistics - Full Preceptorship
There is a stipend available for a physician to train with a designated ILADS Lyme-literate physician (LLMD). This includes physicians with MD, DO, or ND degrees. The clerking physician completes the application. After the training by the ILADS physician, the trainee will fill out a brief report of what they learned and how this will affect their future practice. Their tax ID is also required. Receipts for travel, and living expenses including lodging and food will be sent to ILADS. The trainees will be reimbursed up to $200 per diem for five days and a training stipend of $2500 per week for up to three weeks. Reasonable transportation costs will be reimbursed. The hosting physician receives $400 to cover minimal administrative costs.
